Mercury is going into retrograde on March 14th – Pi Day.
‘Retrograde’ isn’t necessarily real, it’s just an optical illusion, seen from Earth, that makes Mercury look like it is spinning in the opposite direction.
I won’t get into the technicalities of it all, but it has to do with the speed and size of the planets.
I am nothing but a cynic, but astrology has a soft spot in my heart. In my mind, it makes sense that the Earth’s journey around the sun changes the energy experienced on the planet, right?? If anything, it would be naive to believe that our space travel has no effect on us whatsoever.
Modern astrologers warn of Mercury retrograde as a dangerous time – but honestly most modern astrologers are absolute bullshit – you gotta feel the energy out for yourself. I typically have great luck under Mercury retrograde, so I’m excited for Friday.
Astrology was one of the earliest ways to make sense of the world, and it worked and spread and grew for thousands of years. Then we decided to give up the whimsical features and bring in the numbers. Humans tend to do that.
This is the first, but not last Mercury retrograde of the year. This one lasts until April sixth, then there’s another in the summer. All the planets go through retrograde at some point – but we just focus on Mercury because it goes in and out of it so often.
Fun fact, it takes 59 Earth Days to complete 1 Mercury Day, but only 88 Earth Days to complete 1 Mercury Year. The planet rotates on its axis very slowly, but whips around the sun. It also has no seasons, which most other planets have. Sounds lovely.
